COMMON ROBBERY PREVENTION

Robberies are a quick way for the criminal to make money. A Robbery or street robbery is when someone steals or takes anything of value from you against your will. A person commits the crime of robbery when he forcibly steals property and, in the course thereof, he, or another participant in the crime:

HOME/HOUSE ROBBERIES

Home robbery occurs when there is contact between the perpetrator and one or more household members during the robbery. Typically, the victims are subdued by force when the crime is committed. This makes home robbery a more violent crime than housebreaking, where there is, by definition, no contact between perpetrators and victims when the crime is committed.

HOUSEBREAKING/BURGLARY

Is your home safe once you leave for work or school? Your home is considered a sanctuary where you should feel safe or secure.

Hijacking of motor vehicles is a type of crime committed against an individual while they are driving their own vehicle or a vehicle belonging to another person or institution. The question of ownership is not relevant. On average, an estimated 30,664 people in South Africa are victims of motor vehicle hijackings annually.
